Danish parliament considers re-introducing listed events

The Danish parliament has ordered an investigation into whether the country needs to re-introduce listed-events legislation, as government and opposition parties continue to disagree over the issue. Denmark repealed its listed-events law in 2002.
The Danish Kulturministeriet (Ministry of Culture) and the Sports Confederation of Denmark, an umbrella organisation for the country’s sports federations, will conduct the investigation. Broadcasters and sports federations will be involved. The investigation is to begin after the summer.

Ellen Trane Nørby, member of parliament for the ruling Liberal party and member of the parliamentary culture committee, said the investigation had been ordered because there was still no agreement between political parties on whether listed-events legislation should be introduced.

There were calls for listed-events legislation to be reintroduced last year from opposition parties after a Denmark v Sweden football World Cup qualifying match was sold to pay television (TV Sports Markets 13.10). The Liberal party rebuffed the calls at the time, saying it believed “the free market works best in this area."
