IMG picks up Argentine league as Mediapro bails

The IMG agency has acquired the rights outside the Americas for Argentinian football’s top-tier Primera Division, after the previous incumbent, Mediapro, opted not to bid.
IMG acquired the rights, which cover the four seasons from 2010-11 to 2013-14, from the Buenos Aires-based agency Full Play, in a deal brokered by Muy Manero, the company set up by IMG’s former head of football, Fulco Van Kooperen. Full Play had acquired the rights from the Torneos y Competencias (TyC) agency.

Mediapro decided last year that it would not bid to renew its contract, after the Argentine government’s controversial decision to ‘nationalise’ the league’s rights and break an existing contract with TyC had caused confusion in the international market.
