Eredivise channel: ‘We’re on track’

Eredivisie Live, the in-house channel launched by the top-tier Dutch football league, says that it is on track to hit its second-season subscriber target.
The channel, launched at the start of the 2008-09 season, now has 450,000 subscribers and is on course to reach the 500,000 mark in May. The Eredivisie also said that it remained confident of adding a further 100,000 subscribers a season in each of the next three years to reach its ultimate goal of 800,000 by the end of the 2012-13 season.

A number of local executives were more sceptical, amid stories that Eredivisie Live was considering either raising its prices or cutting its number of channels from four to two as subscriber growth slowed. The Eredivisie at present receives about €7 per month per subscriber, once the cable operators have taken their cut.
