Canal Plus first-half revenues up

Half-year revenues at French pay-television group Canal Plus were €2.327 billion ($2.955 billion), up 3.1 per cent on the same period last year. Over the year to June, Canal Plus France’s subscription base (which also includes French overseas territories and Africa) enjoyed a net growth of 356,000.
In France, churn rate among digital subscribers dropped from 13 per cent at June 2009 to 11.6 per cent. Canal Plus said that its continued growth in arpu (average revenue per subscriber) – which was up €1.9 to €46.3 – was mainly due to increased sales of options such as HD, DVR, the football channel Foot Plus, which has nearly one million subscribers, and the success of the new Le Cube set-top box.

Revenues at parent company Vivendi were €13.982 billion, up 6.1 per cent on the first half of 2009. Ebita was up 11.9 per cent to €3.243 billion and adjusted net income up four per cent to €1.526 billion.
