Euro 2012 qualifiers draw big television audiences

Last night’s Euro 2012 qualifying matches drew strong audiences across Europe, with over 10 million watching in Germany, almost nine million in Italy and eight million in France.
German state broadcaster ARD drew 10.67 million viewers, a 34-per-cent share, for the national team’s 6-1 demolition of Azerbaijan. Italy’s 5-0 win over the Faroe Islands was watched by 8.835 million, a 34-per-cent audience share. French commercial broadcaster M6’s coverage of Bosnia-France drew 8.08 million viewers, a 32.2-per-cent share, according to Mediametrie, giving it its best audience of the year so far. Last Friday’s home qualifier against Belarus drew 8.7 million viewers to rival commercial broadcaster TF1. In the Netherlands, Holland’s 2-1 win against Finland was watched by 2.34 million.

In Spain, the national team’s away friendly against Argentina drew 6.5 million viewers to public-service broadcaster TVE.
