  • Australian pay-television broadcaster Fox Sports has agreed a new four-year deal with the Nimbus agency for the rights for all international cricket in India.
  • Spanish rights agency Mediapro has shrugged off concerns about its financial position and said that it expected its Mediaproducción subsidiary to come out of insolvency proceedings in the next three months.
  • Valentino Rossi’s return to the MotoGP championship, after missing four races with a broken leg, gave Italian commercial broadcaster Mediaset a ratings boost on Sunday. The German grand prix at Sachsenring, in which Rossi took fourth place, gave the broadcaster an audience of 5.517 million, a 39-per-cent share. It was the largest television audience of the day and the highest in Italy this season for the championship.
  • Spanish media group Prisa reported “a positive trend” in subscribers to its Digital Plus satellite platform, with net positive additions in June on the back of the Fifa World Cup. Subscriber numbers for the the full quarter to June, however, continued to fall.
  • The European Athletics Association (EAA) may have to settle for a one-year extension to its media rights deal with the European Broadcasting Union (EBU), the consortium of public-service broadcasters, rather than the four-year deal it had hoped for.
  • The IMG agency has acquired the rights outside the Americas for Argentinian football’s top-tier Primera Division, after the previous incumbent, Mediapro, opted not to bid.
